Nacionalización y nacionalismo cotidiano: una panorámica

Resumen

Objetivo/contexto: los estudios sobre el nacionalismo han evolucionado en los últimos años hacia un creciente interés en la nacionalización de la población. En particular, se ha prestado mayor atención a la construcción de las identidades nacionales “desde abajo” y a las múltiples maneras mediante las que los individuos reproducen, contestan o resignifican la nacionalidad. Partiendo del marco teórico del “nacionalismo cotidiano”, el objetivo principal de este artículo es ofrecer un recorrido historiográfico de las aproximaciones al estudio de la nacionalización y calibrar la utilidad de las aportaciones teóricas del nacionalismo cotidiano para diversos territorios y contextos cronológicos. En particular, este trabajo pone de relieve la pertinencia de dirigir la atención a la agencia individual y a las experiencias de nación de los sujetos históricos para entender en profundidad cuestiones claves como la construcción identitaria o la nacionalización de la sociedad en su vida diaria. Originalidad: el artículo evalúa las aportaciones teóricas y metodológicas del llamado “nacionalismo cotidiano” como una forma de conectar los niveles “micro” y “macro” y de captar, a través de las subjetividades, las complejidades inherentes a los procesos de construcción de la identidad nacional y los múltiples modos en que los individuos recibieron, contestaron o resignificaron los discursos y políticas de nacionalización impulsados desde el poder. Conclusiones: el trabajo evidencia el potencial del enfoque del “nacionalismo cotidiano” para estimar los procesos de nacionalización.
