El auge de la historia pública: una perspectiva internacional

Resumen

El presente artículo explora la creación y el desarrollo de la historia pública y presenta los diferentes criterios que llevaron a su internacionalización a partir de la década del setenta y más recientemente a la creación de la Federación Internacional de Historia Pública. Esta perspectiva internacional, estudiada principalmente en Norte América y Europa, tiene sus orígenes en los Estados Unidos en un contexto propicio para amplios debates sobre la naturaleza cambiante del papel de los historiadores. En la década de los ochenta, la historia pública era entendida como la aplicación —por medio de consultorías— de la historia a asuntos de actualidad. Sin embargo, en los últimos años una variedad de acercamientos locales y nacionales han hecho sus aportes a este campo.
