Resumen

Objetivo/Contexto: el texto sitúa los estudios de los mediadores y los lugares de tránsito en la historiografía de las migraciones en América Latina, desde el siglo xvi hasta el xx. Metodología: ubicamos los artículos del dossier en el contexto más amplio de literatura sobre flujos migratorios de América Latina. Originalidad: resaltamos la necesidad de explorar el rol que ocuparon los mediadores en los procesos migratorios y llamamos la atención sobre la necesidad de estudiar la migración desde una escala de análisis intermedia, que se aproxime tanto a las experiencias individuales como a procesos más amplios. Conclusiones: concluimos que los mediadores tuvieron un papel central en la interacción de los migrantes con las instituciones y redes sociales de los lugares a los que llegaron.
