Abstract

This article analyzes the Salon of 1910, an art exhibition organized during the Centennial Exposition. It examines the agents involved in this exposition such as the Academy, the artists, the critics, and the jurors’ awards. The article employs Bourdieu’s field theory to explain developments in the arts in Colombia and to explore the links between the idea of the nation promoted by the Centennial and the artistic works exhibited in the Salon. The article offers, in the end, a novel and suggestive approach to historic and social processes in the arts in Colombia at the beginning of the 20th century.
