Abstract

This article sheds light on female participation in nineteenth century Colombian political life through an analysis of womens’s letters to General Mosquera. It shows that women were an integral part of the socio-political and cliental networks that surrounded the caudillo and that played a role in his revolt against the Ospina government. It also reveals how personal correspondence allowed them not only to request Mosquera’s assistance, but, to offer the general information, advice, and opinions, ultimately inserting themselves into a larger world of politics.
