Abstract
Colombian steel and metal working industries are poor in comparison with the biggest steel companies in the global market. Even, countries as Brazil, Mexico, Argentina and Venezuela produce more steel than Colombia. However national production performance an important contribution to Colombian industry, because this one is around 16% the Gross Internal Production. Moreover, steel industry has an important influence in the employment. In addition, construction and infrastructure industry are determinate by steel production.
In this article, we will analyze the behavior of national steel industry between 2000 and 2003. We will establish how long is the amount of its production and imports, helped by the major Colombian steel makers and manufacturing companies.
