Inclusive and sustainable energy: experiences, lessons and challenges in the framework of a new rurality in Latin America and the Caribbean

Abstract

In this article, we analyze the progress in access to energy that has been experienced by the world and Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC), and we raise questions about access plans, which prioritize grid connection. It also describes the business community management model developed by Practical Action, to achieve the sustainability of rural energy systems. Participatory territorial energy planning is proposed, from the bottom up, as a methodology for rural energization. Finally, some conclusions are presented on achieving an inclusive access to energy.
