Abstract
This article provides a brief geographic, economic and political overview of the department of Cesar, as well as a presentation of the agricultural vocation and the formulation of different department plans structured by the Secretariat of Agriculture and Business Development, during the period of government between 2016-2019, with a 20-year perspective. On the other hand, we present the current landscape of alternative energy sources in Cesar and the strategies linking these to sustainable agricultural systems to create competitive advantages for our territory, aligned to projects with solar and water potential, which position Cesar as a state with opportunities for rural development towards the consolidation of a bioeconomy.
