Abstract

Thirty years after Kirch (1980) seminal paper, this work reviews the role of adaptation in contemporary archaeological thought and discusses its use. In this process, the use of this concept in biology will be examined as well as its use in archaeology, as it is incorporated in processualism, selectionism and Dual Inheritance theories. The author concludes with an evaluation of its current potential.
