Abstract

“Educational level” is recognized in the literature as a positive factor in developing democratic attitudes; however, the evidence seems to indicate that this is not the case in some countries of Latin America, such as Peru. In this article I propose to broaden the treatment of education as a dimension of analysis, seeking to evaluate quantitatively the effect of school experience on political socialization. Through three multiple regression models —starting from a survey of my own making— it is seen that the perception of having been exposed to participatory democratic mechanisms during school experience has a significant, positive impact on the readiness of recent secondary school graduates to consider democracy as the best political system.
