Editorial Policy
Aims and scope
Colombia Internacional (Colombian int.) is a indexed publication of diamond open access journal, periodically which adheres to international criteria of quality, positioning, periodicity, and online availability. Its objective is to disseminate unpublished content that promotes national and international debate in the fields of Political Science and International Relations, through the analysis of current and historical political phenomena, from disciplinary and interdisciplinary perspectives, and relevant and innovative methodological approaches. Colombia Internacional is a quarterly publication that is published at the beginning of each period. It was created in 1986 and funded by the Faculty of Social Sciences of the University of the Andes (Colombia). All digital content is openly accessible through its website.
Colombia Internacional publishes original articles in Spanish, English, and Portuguese. In exceptional cases, translations of articles that have already been published in different languages are included when their relevance to the discussions and issues addressed is recognized. All published articles have a DOI identification number, which facilitates the creation of bibliographic references, searching for articles on the web, and cross-referencing citations between different repositories.
The Journal has an Editorial Team and an Editorial Board. The Editorial Team is responsible for the operational processes of the Journal, decisions regarding the content to be published, proposing thematic focuses for special issues, ensuring quality standards are met, and the processes of indexing and dissemination of content. The Editorial Team is responsible for selecting and inviting the academics who make up the Editorial Board, and periodically reviewing the replacement of some members, taking into account the length of their tenure, areas of knowledge to strengthen, the inclusion of new institutions, and their participation in advising the Journal. The Editorial Board proposes guidelines to define the editorial policies of the Journal, establishes the themes for special issues, ensures compliance with national and international quality standards, discusses the sections that host the content of the Journal, and proposes forms of circulation, dissemination, and indexing.
Publishing modality and distribution
The journal releases four issues per year (January-March, April-June, July-September and October-December). Colombia Internacional publishes open topic as well as thematic issues. The latter are coordinated by one or more guest editors and include, in ocasions, in addition to the articles selected for the dossier, a section for open topic papers. Contents are published in Spanish, English, or Portuguese. All research articles published in this journal have undergone double-blind peer review. To ensure long-term and permanent access to its contents and issues, the journal relies on the PKP Preservation Network digital archiving service, which uses the LOCKSS program for this purpose.

Authors’ Guidelines
Article Reception and evaluation
- Articles must be submitted through the OJS platform during the open call periods, which can be accessed through the journal's website. These dates can be found on the Colombia Internacional website: https://revistas.uniandes.edu.co/index.php/colombia-int/callforpapers
- Articles written in a language other than the authors’ native language must be reviewed by a certified translator before application.
- Texts sent to Colombia Internacional cannot be simultaneously under evaluation for another publication.
- Due to the amount of content received by Colombia Internacional in each call, articles by the same author are not published in a period of two years.
- At the end of the call, an internal selection committee evaluates the relevance of the article and verifies strict compliance with the authors’ guidelines and editing regulations. This review makes it possible to establish which articles will be assessed by external peers.
- Colombia Internacional communicates the status of the article within a maximum period of six months.
- The pre-selected articles are then examined using a plagiarism detection tool. When total or partial plagiarism is detected, the text is not sent for evaluation and the authors are notified of the reason for the rejection.
- Articles are assessed by two referees in a double blind procedure. Said referees are selected because of their academic background and at least one of them must have international institutional affiliation.
- A single rigorously argued negative evaluation would be sufficient reason for Colombia Internacional to reject the article.
- The results of the evaluations are sent to the authors to notify them of the rejection or approval conditioned on the modifications suggested by the referees and Colombia Internacional.
- The author must modify the article using the “Track Changes” tool and attach an explanatory note explaining how the suggestions made by the reviewers and journal have been incorporated. Based on the above, Colombia Internacional makes its final decision on the publication of the article and communicates this to the author in writing.
- The articles approved for dossiers are published in the corresponding issue, and those associated with open forum calls are published in the issue and year defined by the Colombia Internacional publishing cycle.
Editorial process
- Authors are consulted during the editing and proofreading process to resolve concerns. The Editorial Team reserves the right to make minor corrections.
- During the process, authors are contacted through the journal's OJS site. In particular cases, e-mail is used.
- Colombia Internacional verifies the translation of titles, abstracts and keywords sent by the authors. When it is considered that the translations are not adequate, a version produced by the journal’s official translators will be used.
- In cases where articles involve work with communities or individuals, authors must provide evidence of compliance with an ethics protocol and that the study has the informed consent of the participants.
- For photographic series that include persons with identifiable faces, authors must provide the respective informed consent of the subjects portrayed. When portraying minors, parents or guardians should provide informed consent.
- Authors authorize the journal to publish their contents and provide proof of this by signing the publication authorization form of Colombia Internacional.
- When the article is ready for publication, it will be drafted according to the journal's design and layout parameters.
- Colombia Internacional is in charge of disseminating the digital version of the contents through the different repositories, databases, and indexers in which it is hosted.
