Abstract
In 1989, the world coffee agreement between coffee producers and consumers countries was broken producing a period known as the “world coffee crisis“, which was overcame in 2004. New strategies to promote the coffee production and consumption were designed by the National Coffee Federation of Colombia, amongst them renewing the image of Colombian coffee producers, as symbol of coffee producers. In this paper, we describe and analyze, from an anthropological perspective, the political game of representing socially the coffee growers in this crisis period, and the implications for the current situation at the national level.
