Vínculos juveniles con la política: brechas generacionales y de género, y neoautoritarismo en Argentina, Brasil, Colombia y México

Resumen

Objetivo/contexto: este artículo analiza el vínculo de los jóvenes con la política y con la democracia en América Latina, específicamente en Argentina, Brasil, Colombia y México, países que en conjunto agrupan al 70 % de la población de la región, y que tienen historias políticas y trayectorias económico-sociales diferentes. Metodología: los datos provienen de cuatro encuestas representativas, con 2.500 entrevistas cada una, realizadas en línea entre diciembre de 2023 y julio de 2024. En dichas encuestas se formularon preguntas sobre las diferentes temáticas estudiadas en este artículo. Definimos la franja joven entre los 18 y los 35 años, en función de su ingreso al mercado de trabajo luego del fin del auge de las materias primas en América Latina (2011-2012). Conclusiones: mostramos que en este grupo etario, comparado con otras generaciones, hay mayor prevalencia de valores y opiniones que caracterizamos como neoautoritarias. De acuerdo con Altemeyer, en la ideología conservadora-autoritaria clásica se conjugan posiciones conservadoras en la esfera cultural (tales como el machismo y la homofobia), la xenofobia, el punitivismo y un menor apego a la democracia. En contraste, en nuestra investigación detectamos una configuración ideológica de mayor punitivismo, mayor desapego democrático, pero, al mismo tiempo, mayor secularización y menos sentimientos antimigración. Originalidad: se trata del primer estudio comparado, a partir de encuestas representativas, sobre la relación de los jóvenes con la política y la democracia en América Latina en el periodo posterior al auge de las materias primas. Identificamos una nueva configuración ideológica que llamamos neoautoritaria y planteamos una interpretación basada en las particularidades de la experiencia común de la generación que ingresa a la adultez luego del auge de las materias primas, en el contexto de una situación económica peor en comparación con la vivida por la cohorte precedente.
