Objetivo/contexto: El artículo argumenta que, a pesar de que la gobernanza global (GG) es un fenómeno ampliamente analizado y una práctica extendida en la actualidad, se sostiene sobre presunciones ontológicas que no han sido lo suficientemente cuestionadas. Por esa razón, su propósito es ofrecer una comprensión distinta de la GG basada en el pluralismo ontológico. Metodología: Para identificar esas presunciones universalistas, el artículo ofrece un estado del arte a partir del cual se realiza un análisis de discurso y uso de lenguaje en documentos académicos y documentos institucionales. Posteriormente se hace un ejercicio de teorización. Conclusiones: El análisis revela que existe una aproximación universalizada de la realidad global como única y compartida que no permite pensar la GG en términos más plurales que admitan espacios para la diferencia. Originalidad: Este artículo hace una crítica distinta a la GG planteando la discusión en términos ontológicos, de modo que permite pensar lo global en términos más plurales, que no han sido incluidos en las discusiones académicas de la GG.
