Abstract

In this article the authors sustain that president Vicente Fox’s ambiguous response to the terrorist attacks of 9/11, in combination with Mexico's decision not to support the U.S. Ied coalition in Iraq, marked the transition from honeymoon to mutual deception between the presidents of Mexico and the United States. Nevertheless, the importance of the bilateral relationship for the two countries has facilitated the preservation of pragmatic cooperation. The text concludes with a series of recommendations for improving the state of Mexican-U.S. relations during the final years of the Fox government.
