Abstract

This paper discusses the ideas of Albert O. Hirschman on regional economic disparities. Since he was a thinker who was always ready to trespass the narrow disciplinary frontiers, his studies in this field include economic, political, historical, and anthropological considerations. For this reason we have divided the paper according to the above mentioned disciplines. Finally, we explore the relations of Hirschman’s ideas on regional disparities and those contained of Douglas C. North, Paul Krugman, and Daron Acemoglu and his associates.

Keywords: history of economic thought (individuals), regional economic development
