Abstract

This paper aims to analyze the determinants that influenced the probability of access to the contributive health regime in 2006, for Colombian rural migrant population. In order to do this it estimates a Logit model, and it uses data from the Continuous Survey of Households carried out by the National Administrative Department of Statistics (dane). The model includes regressors such as sex, age, marital status, head of household, education, education of the head of household, and reasons to migrate. All of the variables included were significant. According to the findings, achieving more years of education, being male, and being married or in common law marriage, have a positive effect on the probability of being affiliated to the contributive regime. On the other hand, an increase of age, being head of household or having migrated for involuntary reasons, negatively affects the probability of having access to the contributive regime for migrant people in the rural areas.
