Type of articles, dates and forms of reception
H-ART receives unpublished articles in Spanish, English or Portuguese that present research results, reflections or revisions in history, theory and criticism of art. The journal also publishes reviews with a critical view on current issues of the discipline. H-ART is a triannual publication (January-April, May-August, September-December) of the Department of Art History of the School of Arts and Humanities of the Universidad de los Andes (Bogotá, Colombia), created in 2016 and published at the beginning of each period.
H-ART aims to contribute to the dissemination of the research, analyses and opinions about the history, theory and criticism of art. H-ART publishes previously unpublished content by national and international authors, including articles, reviews, critical texts and interviews, as well as digital curatorships and other experimental formats. H-ART is a space open to the plurality of ideas and proposes an enriching discussion forum for reflection on art.
All the articles published have a DOI identification number which, in accordance with international editorial policies, must be cited by authors who use the contents.
The respective calls for papers will inform the date of reception of open or thematic articles. Articles and reviews submitted to the journal's call for papers cannot simultaneously be under evaluation in another publication. Only articles and other texts sent digitally through the OJS platform will be received. H-ART does not charge the authors for the costs of the editorial processes.
H-ART subjects all items received in its call for papers to plagiarism detection tools. When plagiarism is detected, either total or partial (i.e., lacking the corresponding citation), the text is not sent for evaluation and the authors are notified the reason for its rejection.
Editorial process
When an article arrives, the Editorial Team checks if it meets the basic requirements (citation norms and formal presentation) as well as its relevance for appearing in a journal on Art History (objective, theoretical framework, methodology, conclusions and bibliography). If approved, the articles are then subjected to a peer reviewing process by two evaluators, national and international, and the concept of the Editorial Team. During the evaluation, both the names of the authors and peer reviewers remain anonymous and the decision to publish or reject articles is made by the Editorial Team, taking into account the concept of the peer reviewers. Authors are informed of the final decision to publish or to reject articles is made by the Editorial Team, taking into account the concept of the peer reviewers, The final decision to publish or to reject and article is informed to the authors via email by the Editorial Team.
The observations made by the peer reviewers and the Editorial Team should be taken into account by the author, who has a period of approximately 15 days to make the requested adjustments. After receiving the text with the modifications the author will be informed via email about the outcome of the process. During the editing process, the Editorial Team may consult the authors to resolve existing concerns.
The Editorial Team determines the publication of an article and the issue in which it will be included. Also, the journal reserves the right to make corrections of style where it is needed.
Instructions for authors of articles accepted for publication
Once the article is accepted for publication, the author authorizes the use of the author’s intellectual property rights (reproduction, public communication, transformation and distribution) to the Art History Department / Faculty of Arts and Humanities / Universidad de los Andes, to include their text in H-ART (print and electronic) by signing the "Document of authorization for use of intellectual property").
When someone wants to include an article in another publication at a later date, the author must request a written authorization from the Editorial Team and the Editor of the journal and clearly point H-ART as the original publication.
Parameters for the presentation of articles and reviews
At the time of submitting a text for consideration it is required that they meet the parameters established by H-ART:
Articles
They should be written in a Word format archive, Times New Roman size 12 font, double-spacing, paginated, and letter size paper with margins of 2,5 cm.
They should have an extension between 7,000 and 10,000 words in total, including abstracts, keywords, bibliography and footnotes. A maximum of 10 figures (e.g., pictures, graphics, illustrations, photographs, maps and images) per article will be allowed; these are not part of the length of the article and to use them the author must ensure that the rights of use are in order.
The notes will be footnoted, Times New Roman 10 points and single-spaced.
On the first page there should be a summary in Spanish, of no more than 120 words, and its respective translation into English. The title of the text should be presented in both languages.
There should be a list of four to six keywords that identify the article, both in Spanish and English. The keywords should reflect the content of the document, and that is why it is necessary that they indicate the exact topics of the article, showing the areas of knowledge in which they arise and the main concepts involved.
The author's data should not appear in the article. Author's data (name, address, phone and mobile numbers, e-mail address, academic degrees, institutional affiliation, current positions, ongoing studies and publications in books and journals made in the last three years) should be in a separate file.
The same file should include information regarding the origin of the article. If it is based on the results of research, indicate the project that it is part of and the name of the financing institution, if applicable.
Reviews
They should be written in a Word format archive, Times New Roman size 12 font, double-spaced, paginated, and letter size paper with margins of 2,5 cm.
The extension must not exceed 5 pages.
The text should include full details of the reviewed text (author, title, date, city, publisher and total pages).
The text must include information about the author: academic qualifications, workplace or current study and email.
The reviewed texts shouldn’t have a publication date that exceed four years of publication in respect to the issue of the journal in which it would be included. Likewise, it is expected that the reviews will not only establish the contents of the book, but also incorporate a critical and analytical perspective.
Note:
Sending the material:
- The document that contains the article.
- Package of images (10 maximum).
- Declaration of originality and no simultaneous presentation.
- Authorization for the use of photographs and images.
- Document with the author's data (name, address, phone and mobile numbers, e-mail address, academic degrees, institutional affiliation, current positions, ongoing studies and publications in books and journals made in the last three years).
