Abstract
“Looking back over the 80 years since the end of World War II, Japan’s aging rate (the proportion of the population aged 65 and over) was around 5% immediately after the war, making Japan the youngest country among the G7 nations. However, starting in the 1970s, this rate increased dramatically, and by the beginning of the 21st century, Japan had become the most aged country in the world. Meanwhile, in some East and Southeast Asian countries—such as South Korea, Singapore, Thailand, and China—the pace of population aging is now surpassing that of Japan.”
