Abstract
In the area of the Aburrá Valley where the sun sets, there lies a place of knowledge where people, the sky, and the earth share a space built on mutual appreciation. The Belén Library Park seeks to integrate Japanese spatial concepts with the traditional architecture of Antioquian houses, where water takes center stage. The site —which went from being a convent to a police facility during the harshest years of violence in Medellín— took on a new meaning in 2008, when architect Hiroshi Naito, together with colleagues from the University of Tokyo and the Urban Development Corporation of the Municipality of Medellín, collaborated to create an educational, reflective, and recreational space for the community.
