La Comadre: From Legal Battle to Artistic Creation

Abstract

This article proposes a reflection on the relationship between art, memory, and the Colombian armed conflict, based on the case study of the Coordinación de Mujeres Afrocolombianas Desplazadas en Resistencia, La Comadre. The analysis of their trajectory presents the link between their legal struggle for truth, justice and integral reparation with artistic processes and actions. For La Comadre, the steps taken towards artistic language came as a response to the restrictions inherent in the use of traditional language, such as reports, case documentation, hearings, that make up the participation of victims in institutional frameworks.
