Abstract

The results of spatial-structural experiments undertaken allow us to understand new ways of maintaining the rigidity of materials in the face of earthquakes with the use of structures of large dimensions. The relationship between structure and space has been a contentious one in the field of architecture, and the diverse methods of confronting the problem have created an interesting history. The planning strategy of living in the structure itself is not a new one; it has been present for rather a long time in architecture. What is new is using this as a result of a spatial search: something that is conscious and represents a subject for investigation in order to aide the process of selecting the correct materials to use in a structure.
