Abstract
One of the most visible aspects of the recent transformations of Bogotá has been the building and renovation of public spaces. This research project aims to understand the objective causes of the change, the models that have guided development in Bogotá and includes a study of residents’ experiences. This knowledge, compared with the observation of emerging dynamics in some renovated areas, allows us to witness that the residents have, for the large part, adopted the official discourses. It does not however, impede the observing of disagreements and arguments. This exercise allows lessons to be learned from the Bogotá case, particularly with respect to the guarantees required to assure an adequate balance between urban transformation and local development.
