Abstract

This article is based on the author’s research which presents and discusses for the first time, the work of three Uruguayan architects who worked with Le Corbusier. In the case of Carlos Gómez Gavazzo, the article comes to the conclusion that his training and previous interests prevailed over his exploration of Le Corbusier’s work. Gómez Gava zo worked with Le Corbusier on the design for the quartier de la Marine in Algiers. When he returned to Uruguay he won second prize in the Diagonal Agraciada town planning competition. In this article the relationship between modern masks and traditional structures are discussed in the designs of the “Uruguayan Corbusier”.
