Abstract
Traditionally, embroidered textiles have played a meaningful role in funerary rituals and in times of mourning. In Mexico, several groups of activists have been embroidering the names of people who have “disappeared” as a result of organized crime, delinquency and the impunity that has gained ground throughout the country since 2006. Where lies the deep significance of the act of embroidering in relation to death? This is a personal essay that explores paths of mourning, embroidery and discovery about the importance of embroidery in contemporary Mexican activism and its intimate relationship with mourning.
