EVALUATION CRITERIA

Voces y Silencios: Revista Latinoamericana de Educación is an academic, peer-reviewed, electronic, and open-access journal dedicated to the study and dialogue on questions and problems in education, pedagogy, and human development. The journal declares an emphasis on topics that are of particular interest to education in Latin America, although it welcomes contributions in which these areas are presented and discussed in other parts of the world. It is oriented to an audience of researchers, teachers, managers, and other professionals working in education, both in formal educational institutions and in policy-making institutions, non-governmental organizations, and non-formal and informal education spaces. It was published every six months from 2010 to 2023 and, since 2024, it is published every four months, at the beginning of each period: January-April, May-August, September-December.

The editorial team seeks to provide its authors with a quick review and publication of articles in the following sections:

  1. Empirical research articles and literature reviews.
  2. Approaches
  3. Testimonials

Our editorial team expects detailed reviews that capture the strengths and weaknesses of the manuscripts under consideration. Although the editor may request a particular emphasis in the review of an article, generally speaking, we ask reviewers to focus on the following items:

Empirical research articles and literature reviews.

Does the introduction provide a clear understanding of the study (problem, research background, research question, objectives, and the conceptual or theoretical framework in which it is embedded)?

Does the "Method" section show how the research was conducted and provide readers with sufficient detail to understand, evaluate, and/or accurately replicate the study (design, participants, techniques, procedures, ethical considerations, data analysis strategies)?

Are the results presented in a clear, coherent manner that is compatible with the study design, techniques, and methodological procedures?

Do the Discussion and conclusions contain the interpretations, implications, and contributions of the study, as well as the similarities and differences of the findings obtained with previous theories and with the previous work of other researchers?

Are the sources consulted sufficient, and pertinent and do they have a significant volume of current references (last five years)?

Approach Articles

Does the introduction present a brief contextualization of the topic of the text, state the purpose of the writing, present clearly and directly the thesis to be argued and outline the structure that the text will have?

Does the development of the article allow us to achieve the purpose and argue the thesis proposed in the introduction, through a systematic analysis of sources that demonstrates depth in theoretical research.?

Does the manuscript include a concluding section in which the ideas developed throughout the text are recapitulated, the thesis is reaffirmed and a reflection is proposed based on the central propositions that opens lines of research or future deepening?

Are the sources consulted sufficient, and pertinent and do they have an important volume of current references (last five years)?

Testimonial Articles

Does the article include a description/contextualization of the educational experience or practice about which testimony is given (origin, objectives, place where it took place, participants, context -formal, non-formal or informal-, nature -presential or virtual-, among others)?

Does the article include a synthesis of theoretical and empirical references or antecedents that have served as a basis for the approach of the experience from the pedagogical and methodological point of view (these references accompany the reflection of the meaning of the experience from its results, reconstruction, and analysis)?

Does the manuscript present the achievements and challenges that the educational experience or practice has had or had (impacts on the participants, lessons learned, unforeseen aspects, and difficulties that arose)?

Does the article include a section for reflection and discussion in which the meanings of the experience, its transforming potential, and opportunities for improvement are highlighted, and conceptual and practical references are taken up to establish a dialogue with the results that gives meaning to the experience?

Are the sources consulted sufficient, and pertinent and do they include an important volume of current references (last five years)?
