Educational research in technological institutes: An experience for the formulation of a state of knowledge

Abstract
The state-of-knowledge reviews on educational research, produced by the Mexican Council of Educational Research (COMIE) have not extended to all of the country’s federal entities (its 31 states plus the Federal District of Mexico City). In this study we constructed a state-of-knowledge review of educational research conducted by the technological institutes of the State of Veracruz, which included twenty-seven institutions. To compile the information, we used an instrument provided by the Mexican Network of Researchers of Educational Research (RedMIIE), adjusted to the aims set forth in this study. The mixed-methods approach was employed. In the quantitative part, it consisted of statistical and descriptive analysis; in the qualitative part, of interpretative analysis. For the handling of data, the MAXQDA analysis of statistical data was used, as well as Excel. This exercise allowed for the identification of the researchers’ academic and teaching training, the research projects undertaken, the methods used and production and dissemination of their results. The texts analyzed in this study consist of books, articles, theses and talks. Each of them was analyzed and assessed. Likewise, it was classified according to the seventeen areas proposed by the COMIE. The results that were obtained allow one to suppose that products that result from educational research will improve in the future. In addition, this study may serve as an example for future state-of-knowledge reviews of educational research in entities which have still not produced them.
