Abstract
The paper suggests a review of the design criteria for 21st century collective housing, principally to comply with the awareness of the existing social changes. The paper evaluates a number of key issues: does the housing respond to the needs of a diversified society? Does it contribute to the improvement of the quality of the city and the territory? Does it respond to the aims of sustainability? Are the available technologies taken advantage of? The paramenters of housing design in the proposal put forward, have their starting point in the definition of some basic concepts that are complemented with a series of diagrams reflecting the ideal relationship between areas of the housing and spaces belonging to the building itself. An integral evaluation system is generated, made up of 14 + 1 indespensble variables that allow us to project and evaluate projects. To conclude, housing quality is resolved by the correct resolution of the interior space and the building’s contact with the public space in the neighborhood, through a diversity of gradients that go from the public to the private.
