Abstract

This paper undertakes a semiotic analysis of the means as a vehicle to reinforce the meaning of the design object, and validate it both conceptually and plastically. In order to achieve its goals, Bauhaus’ approach has been pondered, as well as the institution’s ideas on the creative processes which, from a materialistic viewpoint, aims to rebuild meaning. Through examples given in the fields of plastic arts and graphic design it is the intention of this paper to validate well-known construction processes by contemplating surfaces that transcend themselves and become a space for refection.
