Abstract
This text researches the critical works of Mário Pedrosa with regards to modern Brazilian architecture. It takes three nucleus of analysis into consideration: the Brazilian differential in relation to the modern style design and the upholding of native tradition and baroque style; the conceptualisation of Brasilia; and the critiques and contradictions relating to the symbolic representation of State power. This text supports the claim that Pedrosa —who sees Latin-America as a space where revolutionary power has been relocated by the vanguards— invests in the development of modern Brazilian architecture as a capable phenomenon to reactivate the utopia of a total art.
