Abstract
The artist María Elvira Escallón presents "Encounters with Remarkable Beings," a work made with branches of sabanero jasmine and eucalyptus, inspired by the book "Meetings with Remarkable Men" by George Gurdieff. The piece suggests the coexistence and interactions between different orders of life: God, human beings, nature, life, and death. Escallón seeks to foster encounters that make us feel a kinship with plant beings, highlighting the importance of alliances and the transmission of knowledge between different realms. From a legal perspective, Fleur Johns, a professor of international law, reflects on the importance and uncertainty of encounters mediated by law. Johns questions the boundaries between the organic and inorganic, and between animals and plants, emphasizing the need to extend human legal protocols to a wider range of encounters. Escallón's work invites us to reconsider diplomacy and legislation from a more inclusive and less anthropocentric perspective.
