Co-creation and interdisciplinarity in community: the nature-centered garden

No. 11 (2025-02-10)

Abstract

The Universidad de los Andes leads sustainable initiatives such as the nature-centered garden in the Caja de Música building. This interdisciplinary project integrates biology, ecology, and regenerative gardening to restore urban ecosystems and promote biodiversity. It prioritizes native, endemic, and naturalized species, creating functional microhabitats for birds, insects, and other local organisms. In addition, it acts as a living laboratory, fostering research and spaces for environmental education. Designed collaboratively by students, faculty, and staff, this garden symbolizes the institution’s commitment to sustainability, biodiversity conservation, and the harmonious connection between the community and its natural environment.
