Abstract

Carnival and the rhythm of calypso have an intrinsic connection with the Anglo-Caribbean poetry of the end of 20th century and the beginning of 21st. This article explores “Sunris”, a section of the homonymous book by Guyanese Grace Nichols. My aim is to explore how these two fundamental axes work, both in the structural level and as necessary elements for the encounter and embodiment of Caribbean cultural heritage.
