The Story of a Life in a Border Situation: Migration, Resistance and Work in the “Sacoleiro Circuit”

No. 48 (2014-01-01)
  • Eric Gustavo Cardin

Abstract

The research undertaken, and now presented here, was aimed at constructing additional understandings of the phenomenon of migration and of the smuggling practices along the border between Brazil and Paraguay. By articulating local knowledge and historically established theories, and exploring the life histories and occupational trajectories in the narratives collected, the text denounces the difficulty of thinking about the world in terms of paradigms and explores the subtleties of everyday life and its potential in the construction of the reality of these lives.

Keywords: Border, migration, labor, life histories
