Abstract
This paper analyses the role of artificial intelligence (AI) as a pedagogical mediator in Latin American educational environments, highlighting its opportunities and challenges. In a context of educational inequality and lack of equitable access to technology, AI offers innovative solutions for personalizing learning, automating assessments, and improving teacher-student interaction. However, its implementation poses ethical and social challenges, such as the dehumanization of the educational process, the perpetuation of algorithmic biases and the technological gap between urban and rural areas. The importance of a balanced integration of AI that complements, but does not replace, fundamental human interactions in education is stressed. The implications of AI in terms of equity and sustainability are also addressed, highlighting the need for public policies that promote inclusive access to technology and continuous training of teachers in digital skills. This paper invites us to reflect on the applicability of AI as a pedagogical tool, considering both its transformative potential and its risks. In the long term, this approach is expected to serve as a basis for case studies in the Latin American region, contributing to the development of strategies that ensure an ethical and equitable adoption of AI in education.
