Abstract
The present testimony addresses the ethical dilemmas that arise in research given the differences between academics doing the research and their study population’s identity traits, needs, and interests. This document presents these problems by collecting and analyzing data at the University of Los Andes. The study focuses on the relationships that students have with their professors who may belong to different social classes. This paper argues that it is necessary for researchers to reveal to participants their objectives for a research project and to guarantee a student’s right to respond to said academic investigation. Similarly, my study contends that a genuine practice of reciprocity should give participants an opportunity to review and propose objections regarding the way a research project represents them. My paper concludes that the principles of reflexivity and reciprocity must be preserved in educational research. A balance of power in relationships define interactions between teachers and students.
