Abstract

During the past decade scientific public spaces have gradually narrowed, particularly those regarding scientific information. Scientific knowledge has been slowly retained in a corporative way. This article examines the historical analogy between the tragedies of the pre-modern village wastelands and the contemporary scientific global village wastelands of knowledge. Here criticism towards global village utopias has particular validity and erudition. Intellectual property protection embraces multiple scientific discoveries. Access to scientific communication is uneven between industrialized countries and those still developing. In Latin American countries one can perceive some global scientific communities that coexist with others centered on local life, as well as a generalized problem of population's access to scientific knowledge.
