Abstract

This study examined the representation and social practices of health of college men of the city Vitória/Brazil. The data were collected through a questionnaire with 120 students at a public institution of higher education and analyzed by software EVOC and Sphinx Léxica to identify the practices of care adopted by men as well as the social representation that are about health. The mains results show a major contradiction between what was expressed by means of representation and some practices adopted by these men. It was, among other things, that man still staff their actions from an ideal of masculinity that does not contribute to a recovery of his health.
