Abstract

This article reflects the experience of the Young people and the bicentenary workshop, held at the Colonial Museum in Bogota from April to August 2010. It explains how the workshop was carried out and who participated in it. It also analyzes the reflections of the workshop participants with respect to the concepts of History and Independence, and presents the contributions arising from the workshop to enrich the debate about the teaching and learning of History. I intend to show how various strategies such as the use of images and exhibitions in history museums, role-playing games, and bringing historical reflection closer to the everyday life of children and adolescents, can be used as alternatives to a traditional way to teach history.
